Floral Style in the Garden District

You may have gathered from my last post that I’m now a little bit…actually a big bit in love with New Orleans.  The Garden District is a little West of the French Quarter and is full of beautiful old mansions and home to some excellent boutiques and restaurants along Magazine Street.  One of New Orleans’ most iconic restaurants (The Commanders Palace) is in this area, as well as one of their most famous haunted graveyards!

We were blessed with beautiful weather during our time in Nola and I knew that only something floral would do for our day in the Garden District.  We were headed to the Commanders Palace for lunch which is a pretty upscale spot so I selected an outfit suitable for here yet still comfortable enough for a short wander around the neighborhood.  Can I just say how nice it was leaving Socal and not having to drive for 10 whole days?!  I forgot how nice it is to be able to walk places!

This mesh floral embroidered dress from Zara (again, sorry!) is so on trend this season and I love how versatile it is – I have also worn it with with black ripped jeans and a cami for a more casual look.  I teamed it with some Nasty Gal chunky silver sandals and my fave little Sandro purse which I bought in Paris.  Shades are from Prada.

Our day in the Garden District started with a stroll down Magazine Street…it has such a laid back, cool vibe, a very different feel to the French Quarter.  Magazine street (like so many streets in the US) is soooooo long, we walked down maybe 1/100th of it, but there are some lovely vintage shops, clothing boutiques, coffee shops and cute restaurants.  At lunchtime we headed over to Commanders Palace – a huge old blue building with a gorgeous interior and packed buzzing atmosphere, this place gets booked up weeks in advance so definitely make a reservation asap.  The food was delicious, there were copious cocktails and everyone was super friendly.  I will write more about the actual food here on my New Orleans food post but I would definitely recommend coming here – its a New Orleans Landmark.  After lunch we were planning to look at the haunted graveyard as it’s right opposite the restaurant, but I have to be honest, we drank far too  many cocktails and stayed in the restaurant for far too long and basically it was closed when we left!  Oooops…well at least we have left something to do next time!
